The Blessful Heart

A Dutch tourist who has just lost her father, asked here and there in Bali. She wants to find a saint who can change her bad luck. She wants to evolve from a life which is full of misfortune into a life which is full of good fortune. This is typical of seekers in this day and age. They seek a holy Guru not in order to illuminate the soul, but to make life full of profit.

A tourist who comes from Australia shared his story in a meditation session, that he had visited healers in Bali. It is the same as the above tourists from the Netherlands, this gentleman also wanted a life which is full of good luck. Sadly, what he found was not good luck, but the soul which is darkening from day to day. A gentleman from Jakarta opened his secret that he has changed his religion three times. But he feels cheated in all the three religions that he followed.

No one forbids spiritual seekers to aspire for profit. However, there is no life which is always characterized by material gain all the time. As the weather in nature, or the cycle of night and day, nature flows, life flows. No one can stop it.

One day a young man in China went to the forest riding a horse to discover the wild horses. Unfortunately, he did not only fail to bring back wild horses, but he even lost his own horse. Hearing this story, the neighbors muttered: "Oh dear, how unfortunate for that young man".

The next day, his horse returned back home bringing together some wild horses. Again the people next door commented: "Oh, how lucky for the young son". Since he is so happy with having new wild horses, he rode one of the wild horse and finally fell and broke his leg. This time his mother spontaneous said: "Oh, that is unfortunate my son".

A few days later the Chinese army came to the village and forced almost all rural youth to become soldiers. Because the young son's legs was broken, he was not taken away by the Chinese army. This time his father muttered: "You are a very lucky man".

To a different degree, all people have such a cyclical life. While the suffering souls try to live always in profit, the shining souls learn to be surfers on the waves of life. When life moves down with it's misfortune, it is time to dig deeper. When life moves up along with the good luck, it is the time to gather energy.

As is often shared in meditation classes, both the unlucky and the lucky experiences are the hand of the same God who comes for the different purposes. As soon as someone believes that both are the hands of the same God, there is much less battle inside. At the same time, there is less energy which is wasted.

Those who can stop all kinds of inner battles,  they will not just be having a peaceful mind, they will also be a magnet which will invite many good fortunes. Similar to the well-fertile fields that produce a lot of rice, peace of mind also produces a lot of good luck.

And among many spiritual fortunes that is generated by a calm mind, the most fortunate fortune is the thankful heart. To make the story simple, someone who becomes a surfer on the waves of life will experience a calm mind. A calm mind is similar to a quiet pool that makes the lotus blossom. And among all the lotus flowers that bloom within, the most beautiful one is a thankful heart. This is why this simple article is concluded as blessful heart.
