The Smile of Light

"The feeling of being deeply lonely in the crowd", that's the experience of many friends. We are not talking about people who are hated by the masses, even the souls who grow in the ocean of praise have the same feeling. To this kind of inner seeker, their body grows in the crowd, but their heart feels deeply lonely. Their hands work in a place which is full of light, but their souls are completely in the dark.

Some of them grow from darkness to more darkness, whereas some others keep looking for a light in places like meditation classes. A number of spiritual friends who come to meditation classes share their stories, the accumulated inner darkness has turned into dangerous diseases like cancer, some others honestly open their secret that they nearly committed suicide.

Having listened to these stories in depth, all spiritual friends who experience inner darkness are very busy struggling and fighting inside. All those things which are not in line with their wishes, from the different spouse to the naughty child, are attempted to be discarded. Sadly, the more they try to remove the darkness, the darker their soul is within.

That is the reason why during meditation classes, students are often asked to meet the light within themselves. Similar to the electric light which is the result of a combination of negative-positive, through the approach of " accepting, flowing, smiling," we need to keep learning to do this combination of negative-positive inside.

The journey will be much easier when we learn to believe that all things that are considered by the mind as wrong-right, bad-good, false-true are the dancing of the same God. All kinds of feelings such as; sorrow-joy, sad-glad, pain-pleasure, are the smile of the same Buddha. To the Nyingma lineage followers in Tantra, this is called Dzogchen (great perfection). To the people of Kagyu in Tantra, this is called Maha Mudra (the great seal).

Some spiritual friends whose mind are too strong have great difficulty in this regard. Some seekers who immerse themselves in religious dogmas are similar. But to heal the inner darkness, there is no other choice other than beautifully hugging each flow of energy within. Initially there was a certain resistance inside. However, when students keep training themselves to accept, flow and smile, the resistance becomes weaker over time.

Once the inner resistance weakens, students will begin to see signs of light inside. Nightmares, bad memories, guilty feelings, the condition of restlessness and sleeplessness start to decline both in quantity and quality. At the same time, there is a sense of deep gratitude and deep thankfulness appearing within. In this state, the soul begins to be purified.

The spiritual journey will be much more beautiful when the student perfects a purified soul. Especially through everyday life which is full of smiles and service. It can be taking good care of the spouse, it can be treating children as children, serving and supporting parents, or guiding the community to meet their inner light.

This long spiritual journey is far from easy. At some point it can be very dangerous, including the possibility of losing one's life. However, there are spiritual protectors that are available in nature. And one of the best protectors is compassion. Repeating the message of one holy book, when your heart is full of compassion, then all beings will pray for your own safety and success.

As soon as pass these obstacles, it is not only the inner darkness which disappears, but life begins to appear as the smile of light. As the natural nature of a flower is beautiful, the natural nature of souls who have found that life is the smile of light, is naturally found a deep happiness and peace in serving others.
