Once upon a time, a young son asked his father about the
characteristics of women who deserved to be his wife. With great confidence,
the old father told his son about the importance of a beautiful face, her
coming from a well-respected family, having a good career and being willing to
sweep the floor when the maid is not available.
This view reflects the characteristics of souls who have the
potential of their relationship collapsing. They only want advantages, they do
not want any disadvantages. Only accepting perfection, but removing all
imperfections. They just like the beautiful aspects of the others, and reject
any of the ugly aspects.
And all families whose relationship collapsed because of
divorce have their roots in psychological greed like this. All friends who have
spent more than a quarter of century together with the same partner understand,
there is no spouse who only has advantages with no negatives or disadvantages.
Similar to the high mountain which is always accompanied by
a deep valley, any advantages are always accompanied by shortages. A beautiful
wife usually has a big ego. A handsome and rich husband is prone to be tempted
by sexual affairs.
From the distant past until the long future, whether you
like it or not, that is the law. That's why in old Eastern philosophy, it is
widely known as this beautiful wisdom: "the human souls are similar to
birds with one wing. We can only fly when we hug each others".
Hugging each others, that's the spiritual path that will
lead the souls to beautifully fly. In simple but deep language, the other's
shortages are not objects to be attacked, but the crying babies who need to be
hugged. The perseverance and the sincerity to always hug each other, that is
the spirit that makes the family grow, and transforming souls into mature and
luminous ones.
Under this light of understanding, forget the old dream of
having a soul mate like buying an ice cream. Once you have paid for it, you
will enjoy the delicious life. To be honest, a soul mate is the fruit of the
perseverance and the sincerity to always forgive, accept and love for decades.
It happens many times, the perseverance and the sincerity to
always love can be betrayed and even wounded. But there is no other choice, in
order to make the soul mature and shining, one must pass through a lot of
suffering and pain. On the deep spiritual journey, it is often referred to as
the only way.
We are not just talking about the common people, even the
saints must pass through these painful experiences. That's why Mahatma Gandhi
was shot, Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, the venerable Dalai Lama
lost his land when he was a teenager. In summary, pain is a cosmic hand which
keeps purifying and perfecting.
As soon as one enters the garden of perfection, they will
read a touching message like this: "sadness is like rain fall, happiness
is similar to sun shine. And you need both in order to see the beautiful
rainbow of your soul mate". On the other corner of the same soul garden,
there is another more touching message: "if you want to touch the rose, do
not be afraid of thorns. If you want to see the light, do not hate the
darkness. And if you want a soul mate, keep hugging your life partner".
