River of Peace

"Why do you put much emphasis on flowing both in life and meditation?". That's the question of many spiritual friends in meditation sessions. Learning from many meditation students who are painfully sick, all diseases and pain are characterized by the inner energy which fail to flow.

Protest, dissatisfaction, complain, anger, revenge, never feel enough are few examples of inner energy which fail to flow. Similar to the water that fail to flow, as a matter of time it will stink. The stench then become the seed of various diseases.

Let's see deeper what people usually referred as self. Everything flow. Physical body flow from the moment of birth, adulthood, old age, death. Human mind also flow. What is called right at certain time can be wrong in another time. Human feelings are similar. Sad, happy, sorrow, joy are all flow like water in the river.

Consequently, if you want to return to the home of peace, you have no other choice except learn to flow. It is as simple as water in the river, everything (sad-glad, sorrow-joy, false-true) flow softly and gently.

In meditation there is a beautiful analogy. Suffering is similar to frozen snow, meditation teachings are like shining sun. And deep devotion to the holy Guru is a magnifying glass that is put between the frozen snow and the shining sun.

Through diligent  activities of witnessing (being a compassionate witness to put it more precise), meditation keep bringing light to the inner darkness of suffering. Until one day meditators experience direct insight that pain is deeply rooted in the mind which fail to flow.

The process of illuminating the inner darkness using meditation work slowly, gradually, naturally. It is similar to the melting snow in shining winter. But as long as one is consistent and diligent, as a matter of time the frozen snow of suffering melt.

In Tantra there is faster but dangerous journey. The journey is called Guru devotion. It is faster because Guru is the symbol of the living sun in the form of human body. It is dangerous because if you make mistakes, you can be burnt by the sun.

That is why it is often suggested to maintain "the right distance with the Guru". If you are too distance, you will lose the light. If you are too close, you can be burnt.

Whatever the path that is followed, either meditation or Guru devotion, both are intended to make the inner energy fully flowing. As soon as the inner energy fully flowing, by then life become a beautiful river of peace.
