A Cup of Happiness

One day Nasrudin was so restless and sleepless. Here and there he met problems and obstacles. Not only the grumpy neighbors who created problems, even God appeared to be wrong in the eyes of Nasrudin. This old man tried to submit countless complaints to God. As a result, God could not sleep.

For that reason, one morning the Lord spoke softly to Nasrudin: "Din, I could not sleep because of your complaints, now you may ask anything, as long as you do it three times, I will give it to you." Suddenly Nasrudin was extremely happy, he spontaneously asked God to let his wife die. In his view, because of his wife, the house was burning like hell.

The next day Nasrudin's wife passed away. And the neighbors came to the house to express their condolence. There was an old lady who said, "she was a woman who deeply loved the family". Another neighbor said that Nasrudin's wife was always praying. And the one who made Nasrudin weep, was a wise man who whispered like this: "it happens many times, those who have a beautiful heart will be quickly called by God".

After hearing the last comment, Nasrudin ran quickly to the back house calling out the name of the Lord. When God appeared, he asked God to revive his wife. A few days later, suddeny Nasrudin realize that God still had one promise. That's why he asked friends and relatives what should be asked for the last time.

The first neighbor suggested: "ask for money Din, with the money in your hand you can buy anything". The second person ordered: "money is useless if you are sick. Ask for health". The third relative make things even more complicated: "if you die, both money and health will be meaningless. Ask for a life without death". At the end, Nasrudin return back to the confusion at the beginning.

The feeling of being confused by God made Nasrudin not call God. He remained silent to God for 11 years. In the following year, God came to Nasrudin: " I still have one promise, why don't you asked about it?". With a glance Nasrudin replied: "I am totally confused. Now it's completely up to you my Lord".

God smiled softly and murmured: "Are you serious, won't you regret later?". Again Nasrudin nodded confidently. This time God whispered with confidence: "ask for a heart which is full of gratitude." Of course Nasrudin puzzled and asked why. With soft eyes the Lord replied, "with a grateful heart, wherever your soul steps life is beautiful."

This tale of Nasrudin is the story of many people. Beginning the soul journey with confusion, and ended it with the same confusion. Do not talk about villagers who have no education at all, even some people who have higher education they also grow from confusion to confusion.

No one forbids people to have a high degree, no one forbid you to have high material and spiritual achievements. But without a deep sense of gratitude, a high degree and a high material and spiritual achievement will prolong the long list of long anxiety and confusion.

That is why the luminous souls are more interested in finding happiness in every present moment. All the present moments - from food, work, prayer, until simply drinking a cup of coffee - are seen from the happy side, complete with it's deep gratitude. For these kind of luminous souls, life is a rain of blessings. Unfortunately, endless desire transforms it into a rain of suffering.
