Rose of Peace

Spiritual friends who spent a lot of time in solitude, as well as accessing the energy of silence know, there are a lot of contradictions inside ourselves. Right against wrong. Religion against science. Logic against feeling. And there are many other contradictions.

The harder one resist these contradictions, especially when seekers called those contradictions as bad under the name of religion and knowledge, there are more burning fire inside. Some of psychological and spiritual illness are rooted here in the burning contradictions within.

When we dig deeper, these contradictions arise because the materials that make the body, the the mind, the emotion are in contradictions. In the human body there are elements of water and fire. The mind can only work if there is duality such as bad-good, wrong-right, false-true. In the same way, emotions also grow riding the waves like sad-glad, sorrow-joy, ugly-beauty.

That's the reason why every human being who live in the level of body, mind, emotion, their life are full of waves. Their waves of life rise when they are glad, their waves of life fall when they are sad. Whenever they are joyful, they celebrate. In the moment when life is full of sorrow, they thought they are punished.

To make it simple, the stronger the duality such as glad-sad grab someone the more extreme the waves inside. That's why in Tantra is often discussed, karma (the law of cause and effect) tend to work harder in the mind which is grabbed by duality.

The habitual energy which is grabbed by duality then influence the soul journey after death. This make souls return again and again to the realm of samsara which is full of suffering. It is as simple as flies which keep looking for trash, as simple as worm which looking for the muck.

Ajan Brahm has a beautiful story about two monks who were good friends in their life. After their death, the first one was born in the high level god realm. When he tried to find where his friend was, it turns out he was born as a worm. Many times the last worm tried to be saved by the high level god, but the worm sink back again and again into it's favorite muck. In summary, even the high-level god can not save someone whose mind which is full of duality.

In Eastern philosophy, it is widely known a belief like this: "one of the important characteristic of enlightenment is how comfortable a person is with all the contradictions within". Whether someone is enlightened or not, there is always contradiction within. As noted above, the nature of the body, the mind, the emotion are full of contradictions.

That is the reason why meditation is never tired to suggest, take an appropriate distance to body, mind, emotion. Never totally follow the will of body, mind and emotion. Especially if you do not want life to grow from one troubling wave to another shocking wave.

Anyone who keep taking the appropriate distance to the body, the mind, the emotion, by then they are be able to feel safe and comfortable with all the contradictions inside. As a result, life is transformed into rose of peace. Where there is rose, there is thorns. Where there is happiness there is sadness.
