Center of Peace

Mythologist Joseph Campbell once wrote in his book The Power of Myth: “There is center of quietness within. If you lose that center you begin to fall”. The question then, where the center is located?

Head

In our time, many people look for the light in the head in the form of intelligence. Schools and universities spend more than eighty per cent of their time to explore the head. It is not always bad, many progress happened because of it. But it’s hard to deny, many souls recently are alienated in their body. They are far from peace.

Mental hospitals are full everywhere, there’s no sign of ending for conflict and war, family institution begin to collapse, schools and religious institutions have deficit of charisma. These are just few examples showing that intelligence is not everything.

To hate cleverness is not the intention of this article. There is light at the head of course. But the head is not the center of peace. Especially because the way of head to understand is very dualistic. Night can only be understood if there is day. Wrong can be noticed in comparison with right. All of these contradictions are far from peace.

Heart

One who spent long time to be burnt by the head usually look for the light of heart. They can be burnt by divorce, loss of job, loss of loved ones. The point is simple, cleverness does not give all the answer. From that point, alienated souls learn to enter the gate of heart.

While the head is rich of intelligence, the heart is rich of love. “Love is the nutrition of soul”, that’s how people on this path believe. At this level, a person is touched by love, kindness, compassion. Not the spoken love, but love that is implemented in daily life. Love that is used as lantern along the journey.

That’s why people who are full of love have shining face, luminous soul. Their life become the source of light to the many. Mainly because there is bright light in the heart. Sadly, heart is also not the center of peace. At the level of heart, love still has opponents called hatred. Divine still have an enemy called devil. This explains why some lovers have dissatisfied life. Especially because after loving, they hope to be loved. After watering they expect to be watered. This is not the center of peace.

Navel

While the main activity of head is knowing, the main activity of heart is feeling, the main activity of navel is being. Unfortunately, in the time when people glorify head alone, it is very difficult to explain the importance of heart, and it is even more difficult to explain the center of peace near the navel.

The center of peace near the navel can only be explained and achieved indirectly. Sex is a beautiful example. The main reason why sex is such beautiful because in the moment of sexual intercourse most energy are concentrated near the navel. When we’re a baby, we’re connected to the mother through the umbilical cord. Once we’re born this cord was disconnected. That’s the beginning of unpeaceful life. And later when a person attains enlightenment, there is another “cord” emerge which connecting soul with mother of existence.

The closest point to the navel is heart. For that reason, no matter what happen in life never stop loving. Any soul who approaches the center of peace near the navel will be shaken. Quoting from psychologist Carl G. Jung, they will experience the dark nights of the soul. Especially because souls enter a new and totally different territory. But this is not a reason to stop loving. In the time when love becomes unconditional, then one approaches the center of peace near the navel. From that time, life will never be the same. Life is like river of peace which never dry.
