Pendulum of Peace

One day a wife whose husband is suffering from a chronic heart disease was surprised because her husband won the lottery. Being afraid that something wrong could happen to her husband, this nice woman ran to a Priest where they usually consult. With a gentle voice this Priest asked to the man who won the lottery: "what will you do if you win the lottery?". He firmly replied: "most of the money will go to you Priest ". Upon hearing the answer, this Priest died suddenly.

The lesson of this story is simple, life is like a pendulum. Each time the pendulum is pulled to an extreme point, it will be back to the other extreme. That's why meditation always underline
s the importance of being in the middle.

Every time meeting the souls who are tired and restless, their eyes revealed how extreme the movement of the pendulum is. When they are happy, they enjoy the life such happily. When they are sad, they cry so sadly. As a result, life is full of fatigue. In some cases, people have serious illness, few of them even want to commit suicide.

A young mother who claimed to have attempted suicide three times opens a secret, her eyes are very tired, and her soul is restless
. A number of parents to the children with different ability are also similar. Their body are tired, some even punish themselves as souls who are very sinful.

It is the souls like these who need to see the light behind suffering. Suffering is not a punishment, it is not a sin, suffering often brings a deep understanding about light. Similar to darkness that makes light shines brighter, it is suffering which often call souls to
be back home.

In this era people admire Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They all grew in different tradition, but their souls were made such luminous by the same suffering. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, Mother Teresa spent most of her life in the midst of poverty in Calcutta, Mahatma Gandhi was shot, HH the Dalai Lama lost his country at the age of fifteen.

In summary, when souls are equipped by sincerity, honesty, suffering can reveal a mystery of light. A number of teachers even whispered: "Only suffering that can give you depth". Something that cannot be given by pleasure and happiness.

The question then, how can we see the light behind suffering? First of all, suffering is a way of soul to purify itself. It is similar to sandpapers which smoothen the wood. Secondly, suffering is a holy bell reminding souls that they grow too far from home. Thirdly, when it is totally accepted, suffering give souls some depth.

With such compass in the heart, souls journey can say thank you to suffering. Especially because suffering is a sacred hand which brings the soul to
be back home. Without suffering, souls will be get lost in the pleasures of body and the arrogance of mind.

Back to the initial story about life pendulum which makes souls so tired and restless, one of the ways to be back home is meditation which emphasizes the middle way. In meditation, we learn to be a compassionate witness. As a result, the pendulum motion is getting more gentle from time to time. When the pendulum rest at the middle, that is ultimate peace.
