In the moments of meeting restless and sleepless souls, there’s always the strong energy deep within their souls of comparing their lives to others. Someone who walks compares themselves with those who ride motorcycles. Those who feel poor compare themselves with the rich. The result is predictable, their souls are not only restless and sleepless, but they also have the feel of being alienated in their own body.
This feeling of being alienated in their own body makes many seekers keep seeking here and there, and finally they find nothing. Before life sinks into a deep crisis, it is worth contemplating again and again to make the reverse journey. From the outer journey of comparing with the others, to the inner journey of rediscovering the gem within oneself.
Learning from the symbolical teachers which are visible within nature, while lotus flowers grow beautifully in the wet water, frangipani grow beautifully in the hot and dry land. While fish swim in the water, birds fly in the air. While the friends of flowers are butterfly and bees, the friends of waste or rubbish are flies.
In other words, there are various ways to grow. Peace and beauty can happen in life when you learn to let lotus flowers grow in the wet water and let birds fly in the air. One of the brightest physicist in our time Albert Einstein shared a beautiful message: “If you measure the birds using the measurement of swimming, measuring fish using the measurement of flying, by then everyone will appear to be idiot”.
The important spiritual task then, is how can someone find out if they are closer to the lotus flower or the frangipani flower? At the stage of perfection in particular, meditation never tired to teach us to take a perfect rest. Especially taking a perfect rest from all forms of inner quarrelling. To put it simply, whatever the blessing of the moment, from eating to working, learn to see the blessings of the events. And the most important thing, to hug the present moment as it is.
In the language of God worshipers, everything is the dancing of the same God. In the language of discipless on the path of Buddhism, everything is the smile of the same Buddha. For the beginners, it takes a very long time to believe that grief is the dancing of God. It takes a long struggle for beginners to believe that bad luck is the smiling of Buddha.
But in order to heal soul (and society as well), there is no other option except to peacefully hug the present moment, with the spirit of wholeness. That is why, in the West many people have written that the word health is derived from the word whole. Through the consistency and the perseverance to always hug the present moment, someone continuously getting closer to the home of wholeness.
In a more poetic language, life is a series of cosmic musical notes. Pleasure is the way of the soul enjoying the music, pain is they way of the soul understanding the lyrics. To make it simple, sad-glad, sorrow-joy, pain-pleasure are all pairs of soul wings. Both equally help the soul to fly. This is what’s called as the home of wholeness. In the last home, someone can clearly see their natural calling of life.
In an in-depth and thick book titled “Touching Enlightenment”, Reginald A. Ray Ph.D wrote the following deep message: “to be enlightened is to be fully and completely embodied. To be embodied means to be at one with who we are”. Repeating the previous message, whatever the blessing of the present moment, learn to be at one.
Spiritual friends who deeply meditate know, if they diligently learn to be at one with the present moment, they are actually preparing the best preparation for the future.
For that reason, it is understandable that in the depths of silence one can hear a message like this: “being able to be yourself, in a world that is constantly trying to make you become someone else, is actually a deep spiritual attainment”. As soon as someone arrives here, they can say goodbye to the dangerous behaviour of comparing, they can also say goodbye to the feeling of soul alienation.
