After reading the article "Meeting The True Guru" a young man
asked a very touching question like this: "If The True Guru only
illuminate souls with abundance accumulation of good karma, then who will
illuminate the dark souls who are full of shortcomings?".
To be honest, in each cycle of time there is light. Unfortunately, many
people obscure themselves by many clouds. Consequently, they keep thinking that
no one illuminate their soul. Similar to the light in nature. During the day
there is the sun. During the night there are stars and moon.
In Tantra especially, there are three types of clouds which obscure souls
to meet the light. There are external clouds such as body, mind and emotions.
There are inner clouds which is known as nadi (energy channels), prana
(energy), bindu (the essence). And the last one is the inner most secret clouds
which is dualistic fixation.
Meditation which is taught for the public consumption can only cleaned the
barriers outside. While the inner barrier and the inner most secret barrier can
only be cleaned by the deep practices of Tantra. Unfortunately, it is not
allowed to open the secrets of Tantra to the public.
For the public consumption, there are three bridges that connecting souls
to the light. The first and the long bridge is called meditation. Similar to
the electrical light that appears as a result of synthesizing the negative and
the positive, meditation use the same logic. Through the perseverance of keep
witnessing, witnessing, witnessing, meditators are synthesizing the negative
and the positive elements which lies within.
The second and the shorter bridge is sincere service. In line with
meditation, diligent and sincere service can also guide someone to meet the
light. One of the famous Upanishads poem explain the beauty of service like
this: "I got lost in searching for long time. I rediscover myself in
service. After service was deeply explored, it turns out that the served and
the server are the same". This is a beautiful expression of souls who
encounter the light through sincere and diligent service.
The shortest bridge which is full of obstacles is pain. In our time almost
all of the saints meeeting the light using the bridge of pain. Nelson Mandela
was imprisoned for 27 years, the venerable the Dalai Lama lost his country at
the age of 15, Mother Teresa spent decades of her life in the pain of Calcutta
city, Mahatma Gandhi was even shot.
While the ordinary people run away from pain, the spiritual seekers who
meet the light in this way learn to deeply bow down and respect the pain. It is
the same as respectfully bow down to the True Guru. In short, always keep in
the heart that pain is a spiritual gift that illuminate the souls.
The beauty of encountering the pain, it does not only make someone pay back
the debts of karma, but also makes the soul well-purified and well-perfected as
well. The great poet Kahlil Gibran met the beautiful light which was shared
through his masterpiece "The Prophet" when he was in deep sorrow.
The question then, which bridge that one should follow?. It depends on how
stable someone is. If someone is unstable, full of darkness, easy to fall, then
meditation is the most secure bridge. If you are solid, strong, diligent,
sincere, then it is advised to use the bridge of pain to meet the light.
