Diamond of Compassion

One day there was a poor man in remote area of Africa who keep praying in order to have a diamond. And finally he fail to get the diamond. Frustrated with this fact he then sold his land, and look for another diamond in a distant land.

In the distant land the fate of this man was the same. He could not find any diamond that he was looking for. After very boring and exhausted, he then returned back to his home land with all of his disappointments. And how surprise he was when watching that the land which he sold earlier now belongs to a mining company that mine countless diamonds there.

This story is an old story. It is as old as the human quest. Initially, many people are not satisfied with what they have. As a result, they try to find what they want in very distant places. And the more they try to find the more they get lost. And finally they find what they seek in the place where they start the journey.

The spiritual journey of souls to find home is similar to this. Being unsatisfied with the sacred places in their own country, many people go to India, Nepal, Tibet, Lourdes, Arab, Jerusalem, Peru, etc.. With deep sadness should be disclosed here, all who search for home in distant places should be disappointed at the end. Sorrow, misfortune, suffering, sadness come again and again without any end.

And anyone who does not run away from grief, respect sadness as if they respect holy Guru, read the hidden secret behind sadness, then there's possibility to find diamond inside. And that holy diamond is called compassion.

In our time, the world admire Jalaludin Rumi, Kahlil Gibran, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Martin Luther King Jr., Lady Diana. All of them were born in a different country, grew in a different tradition, but their spiritual doors were opened by deep sadness.

Their stories were very alike, most people run away from grief as the birthplace of beautiful souls in this era. They went far away and look for what they want in the land of pleasure, happiness, joy. Consequently, they feel alienated in their own body. The last state of alienation then makes them return back home.

And in the place of origin, the soul again is greeted by sadness. Not because of being punished, not because of having many sins. But because sadness is an important chapter in the book of life. Without reading the chapter of sadness deeply, all the other chapters in the book of life cannot be understood.

Pain, that is the story of souls who have returned back home, is like sand paper that smoothen the soul. It cleanses soul from body, thoughts, feelings until intelligence. After soul is clean, then there is possibility of finding home.

In the moment when soul return back home, many were surprised, what is sought is also seeking, whatever soul seek is available within. That's why a spiritual teacher advised: "when you stop searching you will arrive". As soon as soul arrive home, there is nothing left, except a deep compassion which expecting that all beings will be back home. That is the inner diamond of compassion.
