Compassion Heals

Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl who pray deeply in order to get a husband who is a single son from a very rich family. The intention behind is very simple, she wanted to find paradise in young age. It does not clear from where the strength of prayer comeOnce s from but eventually she then married to a handsome young man who is a single son of a very wealthy family.

Unfortunately, she did not get the expected paradise. On the contrary, the new family life is similar to a very burning hell. Her mother in law was not only grumpy and rude, but also very suspicious of the intentions of this girl. As a result, life is similar to chicken that die in the midst of rice. All direction are wrong. All behavior are considered to be fault. After passing a few months, this newly married woman began to be stressful and cannot stand living in the unimaginable hell of the earth.

To make the story short, she came to a shaman who is also a wise spiritual teacher.  As soon as she met the teacher, she wept, she told him about the fail marriage, her life resembles hell, until she nearly commit suicide. At the end of the crying, she asked for the poison to be placed in the drinks of her mother in law.

This wise teacher smiled and muttered like this: "I have a poison that works very slowly; it will not make people suspect you at the end". After a long pause, this old man continues his message: "but this poison only works with one condition". This young lady begins to be impatient, and asked about the single condition. "The condition is only one", the teacher continued his message: "you must love and serve your mother in law as perfect as you worship the compassionate Goddess Kuan Yin".

Since that day this woman changed all her attitude to her mother in law. She serve and love her mother in law as perfect as worshiping the compassionate Goddess Kuan Yin. Before the mother in law wakes up, she was already awake preparing all the things that make the mother feel safe and comfortable. From setting up sandals, warm towel, clean bathroom, until delicious and clean breakfast. There is no minutes and seconds when the mother in law was left behind. Everything was settled as perfect as worshiping the compassionate Goddess Kuan Yin.

Within three months, the mother in law was completely changed. From the harsh words into soft words. From suspicious into love. From the attacking attitude into compassionate attitude. Seeing such dramatically change, in the fourth month this young woman begin to be guilty of poisoning her mother in law who is now appear to be the same as the compassionate Goddess Kuan Yin. After experiencing such deep confuse, then she returned back to the house of the shaman.

This time again the woman deeply cried, now she asked for the opposite request which is antidote that neutralizes the poison. Suddenly the teacher got laugh and loudly said: "I do not have any antidote". Hearing such answer, this stressful woman threatened to commit suicide in the front of the teacher. This time the old wise man said clearly: "I never give any poison to you and anyone else. The thing that I gave to you four months ago was only multi vitamins".

No one prohibit you to smile reading this story. The message of this story is really simple, life is similar to sailing. Do not ever change the wind, change the sail. Try not to change the other, especially the older, the higher rank.  Focus your energy on changing yourself. And finally see how life changes as well.

And the most powerful energy that can change life is compassion. To put it simply, see all beings as suffering souls. Their anger and attack are just the way of their crying soul to ask for help. And our pain and wound within are energy that reminds us that we're here to help them.

And the beauty of compassion - as the story above, it heals both the loved and the lover. Quoting one of the research findings of the Harvard psychology professor named Daniel Goleman, when the native Tibetan yogi meditating on compassion in MRI machine, the neuron movement in the part of the brain that functions to cure increased until eight hundred percent.
